Matinée Musicale Club members met on Wednesday, May 5, 2016, at the home of Carolmae Katz for a recital and lunch. The program began at 11 am with two songs by Franz Schubert, “Du bist die Ruh” and “Gretchen am Spinnrade”, sung by new member Mary Ann Powers Buyukisik, soprano, accompanied by Carolmae Katz at the piano. Next, Susan Herman, Katie Phillips, Laurel Hinkle and Carolmae Katz performed “Music for Two Pianos, Eight Hands” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Mary Ann returned with two songs by Ricky Ian Gordon, “The Spring and Fall” and “A Special Picnic”. Then, pianist Atarah Jablonsky performed three “Preludes, Opus 38”, by Dmitry Kabalevsky. Finally, Atarah Jablonsky and Carolmae Katz performed “Concertino for Two Pianos” by Dmitry Shostakovich.
The delicious mediterranean lunch was catered by Kinneret Restaurant. Many thanks to Carolmae Katz and Barbara Selya, co-hosts, and to Donald Hurd for providing printed programs.
