Pandemic Can’t Stop the Music:  Matinée Musicale Awards $51,000 in Scholarships

Matinée Musicale Cincinnati is among the local arts organizations deeply affected by the pandemic, but it has risen to the challenge of maintaining its mission to present and promote classical music in the community. Thanks to technology, the hush resulting from the coronavirus shutdowns was interrupted this spring by the uplifting sounds of music when Matinée Musicale held its Nancy F. Walker Memorial Scholarship Competition for classical instrumental and vocal students. More…


NEWS ABOUT OUR PAST ARTISTS:

Pene Pati and Nadine Sierra (also a past Matinée Musicale recitalist) starred in Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” at the San Francisco Opera in September 2019. Click here to see this outstanding video clip!

Albert Cano Smit, pianist, who performed here on October 20th, was named a 1st place winner of the Young Concert Artists International Competition in November 2019.

The Dover Quartet performed on our series on November 17th and was nominated for a Grammy this year.

Yolanda Kondonassis, harpist, received her second Grammy nomination in the classical instrumental solo category. She last performed here in 2018. While she didn’t win, composer Jennifer Higdon won in the Classical Composition category for the harp concerto that she wrote for Yolanda!

Last fall, Jason Vieaux, guitar, gave a solo recital for San Francisco Performances, performed with the Kentucky Symphony and participated in New West Symphony’s world premiere of Canvas, a double concerto for guitar and bandoneon by Julien Labro.
